The digital editions of the papers of international conferences, organised by the Constitutional Court, have been published. These are collections of the presentations, in Latvian and English, given by the participants of the conferences held in 2024, 2023, and 2022.

The conference of 2024, “The Role of Constitutional Courts in Concretising the Shared Values Uniting Europe”, was held in honour of the twentieth anniversary of Latvia’s accession to the European Union. The message that harmonious interaction between the national constitutional identities and the values uniting Europe facilitates the protection of fundamental rights of every European runs through the findings expressed at the conference. These are complementary elements, allowing to reach balance in the application to the national, the European Union law, and international law.

The conference of 2023, “The Role of the Judiciary in Execution of Judgements of the European Court of Human Rights”, was dedicated to Latvia’s Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe. This conference promotes protection of those values, on which, already for more than 70 years, the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms and the application thereof are based.

The conference of 2022, “Sustainability as a Constitutional Value: Future Challenges”, was organised in honour of the 25th anniversary of the Constitutional Court and the centenary of the Constitution. Sustainability was chosen as the central topic for the conference, as it is one of the constitutional principles, directed at implementation and protection of the aims and values, enshrined in the Constitution. Moreover, sustainability of democracy and fundamental rights pertains to every state and citizen, as well as every person’s responsibility before future generations.

Judges of the Constitutional Court of Latvia, as well as Judges from other European constitutional courts, the Court of Justice of the European Union, the European Court of Human Rights, representatives of the Council of Europea, the European Commission for Democracy through Law (the Venice Commission), scholars of law and other experts spoke at the conference.
